Should You Trust The Bible?

In an earlier post (http://gordonfeil.blogspot.ca/2016/11/what-is-reality.html), I mentioned that it appears to me that we live in a programmed holographic universe and I implied that the programmer is God. I think I have observed that God has set things so that we have enough sensory and intellectual evidence to support our faith, yet with a sufficient deficiency in that evidence to require faith as the real evidence. The existence of that God is an interesting discussion, and is not the one I am entertaining this morning. Perhaps in several days though.

Today I am presenting the reasons I see the Bible as the paramount literature in our world. In other words, what makes the Bible special? Here are some of what seem to me to be remarkable about the Bible.

1.      Its ideals.  It has been said that “The best of men could NOT have written it; the worst of men would not have written it.”

2.      Its efficacy: its ability to transform lives.  Anybody who has experienced this in themselves finds it easy to accept the Bible as God’s word, even the difficult parts.

3.      Its integrity. In many places it speaks with verifiable details. An example is Luke 3:1-2. Count the details. “Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 2while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.”  Writers who are making up what they claim is non-fiction typically do not include details that are subject to verification. The more details in an account, the greater the chance of error, but the Bible is not afraid of detail.

4.      Its composition.  About 40 people from 7 countries composed it across 1600 years, yet it is internally consistent and presents a unified theme (which is found in Isaiah 51:16 and Hebrews 2:10).

5.      Its indestructibility. This is not an issue today, but there have been times in history when governments did their best to wipe it out, but it have always thrived.

6.      Its foreknowledge. Huge portions of the Bible are prophecy and the fulfillment of much of it has been verified.

7.      There is the matter of what has been labelled the “Bible code”. Look it up. Fascinating.

8.      And here is one for those that claim that Jesus (Y’shuah) is God. The Bible must be God’s word if Jesus is God.  He treated it as the word of God, and if you think he is God, you have to accept that any attitude he has is valid.  If we accept Jesus as god, we have to accept his theology as reliable.
