Europe: The Psychological Gap Between East and West

At https://carnegieeurope.eu/strategiceurope/77648?lang=en&utm_source=RC+World+Europe+Memo&utm_campaign=4e87ceb192-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_9960d29f6a-4e87ceb192-84121221 is an article on the growing division between eastern and western Europe. The article draws attention to a couple of differences between them: western Europe historical has net immigration and eastern countries have had net emigration, and the west is liberal while the east grows increasingly fascist. The article contrasts the need the east had to gain independence from Moscow with the inclination the article says it now has to cozy up to Moscow. I have not noticed that last bit, but then I don’t live there.

I do think that the article ignores the culture of dictatorship that is in eastern Europe. One reason for what the article calls illiberal government there is that the people running things grew up indoctrinated in dictatorships.

One thing is clear: the EU is not likely to last.
