Someone sent me a link to an interesting post. It has
to do with Chinese students stifling intellectual freedom in Australian
universities. There is a lot of Chinese
investment in Australian assets (which to me speaks volumes about Chinese
assessments of their own economy: why the exit of Chinese capital to Australia
if China’s economy is doing so permanently well?). And there are Chinese
students in Australian universities of course. This article reports that the
Chinese government puts fear of reprisal into Chinese students abroad if the
students espouse ideas contrary to the party line: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/31/opinion/australia-chinese-students.html.
